SELF LEARNING TECHNIQUES AND EXPLORATION OF IDEOLOGIES IN ACQUIRING VOCABULARY OF UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE – AN ANALYTICAL VIEW

Abstract

To learn or to know about any language, it is a must to be aware of the usage of words of that particular language. As the words construct sentences, sentences frame paragraphs and paragraphs will become essays and then they become novels and literature as well. Hence, to know about the words is the basic step to learn and grip in any language. The process of knowing various words of any language is called vocabulary. The dictionary defines vocabulary as the body of words used in a particular language. At present scenario, English being the Global language, it is a must to every cosmopolitan to learn this language for the livelihood. That is the only reason, there is a huge demand to English language to the non natives of English people, and everybody is looking for the techniques to improve and enhance the vocabulary in this language so as to showcase and explore this language officially for the survival of the existence in this internet driven society. Particularly to speak about the students, this language has become a nightmare as English vocabulary and Reading comprehension passages are taking lions share in any academic exam or in any competitive exams. Though the learners take English medium from their cradle, it is like a herculean task to major share of learners, as the reasons are many like they take English language as a subject to score marks. If they take language as a language and acquire this language instead of learning or rote up way, they will succeed in improving this language in the ways of listening, speaking, reading and writing as well. In y view, language is acquired rather than to be learnt, as a skill like swimming or driving, language also cannot be spoken unless the learner practices and experiences of the pros and cons like committing mistakes and rectifying. Hence, this paper traces out various self learning techniques in acquiring English language vocabulary learning techniques which help the learner community to augment their language and get success in their select fields. I have applied the analytical way of narration with few identifies techniques through out my paper with few examples as case study examples.

DETERMINATION OF WOMAN CHARACTER IN CHETAN BHAGAT’S HALF GIRL FRIEND

Abstract

Chetan Bhagat an Indian English author is known for his simple language and is a significant writer in fiction. Of many successful writers in India writing Chetan Bhagat stands apart for conveying his views or ideas through his novels in a realistic manner which are very appealing to the reader. His novels are all based on today’s youth, depicting their emotions, likes and dislikes through his characters. He is an exemplar of Indian youth and considered as youth Icon. Chetan Bhagath in an indirect manner supported feminism in his novels and pushed for their rights to live as a respectful and honourable person. As George Eliot says, “It will never rain roses: When we want to have more roses, we must plant more roses”, soChetan Bhagath shows the determination of the female protagonist in novel Half Girl Friend. My paper is going to show the areas where the heroine was determined in her character.

RELIGIOUS CONFLICTS IN FARRUKH DHONDY’S BOMBAY DUCK: A CRITICAL STUDY

Abstract

Farrukh Dhondy, an expatriate Parsee novelist, offers two dense and energetic narratives in Bombay Duck which address the painfully current issue of religious fundamentalism. The other motif in the novel is an expatriate’s quest for roots. Divided into two parts, the novel has Gerald Blossom as the protagonist in the part and Xerxes in the second. If the first narrative concentrates on Sanskriti in all its ramifications, the second is a vehement expression of the Angst and alienation of Xerxes who is the centre of consciousness. Set in a white milieu, Dhondy’s novel celebrates the bi-cultural identify of the young Asians in Britain and moves between the two worlds of Bombay and London. A tragic undercurrent pervades this multi-dimensional narrative. It is a novel of belongingness of the breaking down of cultural barriers. Dhondy questions the negative in life which is the cause of intellectual alienation and cultural vacuum.

Abstract

Language learning takes place through natural interaction in actual life. While the mother tongue is acquired through shear exposure, the second language, English is learnt through a conscious and voluntary exercise. English language learning in India, is done mostly through education, where there is a clearly predetermined curriculum design. English language learning in these circumstances might particularly attend to the component abilities of language usage, viz., Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing: in addition to these skills the required vocabulary has to be earned and a command on grammar should be achieved. Curriculum refers to all those activities in which students are engaged under the auspices of the school. This includes not only what students learn but also how they learn it, how teachers help them to learn, using supporting materials, styles and methods of instruction.A syllabus of language English teaching involves the integration of subject matter and linguistic matter.It may be stated that whatever standard is employed to frame the syllabus, subject book writers and course designers have to settle on how reliable the language incorporated in the book, the language diversity the book presents, the exercises and activities they are going to include, and so on. In conclusion, the various subject matters that are to be integrated in the course book should be selected. To design the English language curriculum, it is very important that the six abilities i.e., speaking, reading and writing accompanied by listening, vocabulary and grammar should be given importance.

Abstract

The seed of Indian Writing in English was sown during the period of the British rule in India. Now the seed has blossomed into an ever green tree, fragrant flowers and ripe fruits. The fruits are being tasted not only by the native people, but they are also being \'chewed and digested\' by the foreigners. It happened only after the constant caring, pruning and feeding. Gardeners\' like Tagore, Sri Aurobindo, R.K.Narayan, Raja Rao - to name only a few, looked after the tender plant night and day. In modern time, it is guarded by a number of writers who are getting awards and accolades all over the world Indian Writing has turned out to be a new form of Indian culture and voice in which India converses regularly. Indian Writers - poets, novelists, essayists, and dramatists have been making momentous and considerable contributions to world literature since pre - Independence era, the past few years have witnessed a gigantic prospering and thriving of Indian English Writing in the global market. India\'s substantial contribution to world literature is largely due to the profusely creative literary works generated by Indian novelists in English. Their works contemplated and deliberated on multifarious range of issues like nationalism, freedom struggle, social realism, individual consciousness and the like. Indian English literature is two hundred years old. Sri Aurobindo stands like a huge oak spreading its branches over these two centuries. The contribution of Sri Aurobindo as a perfect writer and craftsman is undoubtedly great. He is the first poet in Indian English writing who has given the re - interpretation of myths. Sri Aurobindo envisages spiritual humanism. What Sri Aurobindo points out to the philosophers of today is that human life, body and mind are the evolved forms of super mind. Aurobindo’s famous works \"The Human Cycle and The Ideal of Human Society\" taken together to give a complete picture of Aurobindo\'s version of the future possibilities of man and shows the humanistic trend in his thought. In the Human cycle, the poet - philosopher offers us a social philosophy of history illuminated by a splendid spiritual vision of future.

ANIMAL IMAGERY IN TED HUGHES POETRY

Abstract

Poets draw inspiration through nature .It is the Nature that nurtures our thoughts and guides .Keen observation of the water bodies the surroundings and the animals subtly silently help to think on their behavioral pattern. We have many poets ShelleyKeats Wordsworth, Robert frost and so on. One such poet who grew observing animals and their behavior in the moors and valleys and wrote poems on animal imagery is none other than Ted Hughes. We can be sure and get convinced of his sharp observation of the animals and birds he mentioned with the vocabulary he used . Personification of the hawk especially and the authority and superiority it expresses the confidence it displays grabs the attention of the readers . Here I would like to discuss regarding “Ted Hughes “poetry which deals with the observation of nature and animal instincts. Ted Hughes is one of the greatest modern poet . His poetry on animals has won him the accolades. His poetry deals with animals and their behavior which has a closer resemblance to human nature. The animal imagery he used are horses, foxes, hawk and deer .He appreciates the animal behavior for it is simple straight forward and unsophisticated. He has concern towards the animals that they may be endangered due to human interference. He passes a message to protect the wild life from the urban lot.
