MICROFINANCE AND INCLUSION OF POOR- REALITY OR MYTH

Abstract

The microfinance business as such can act as a ‘miracle cure’ for poverty and ensure smooth of economy. But the poor and needy household though with an access or not to financial services, find it extremely difficult to build assets, fund for their children’s education, and protect themselves against financial shocks and overcome the crises they face. They are caught into a vicious circle of poverty. If at all there is a formal financial system, no more than twenty percent of the population is benefitted through micro-finance. The remaining seventy to eighty percent are those who are excluded and poor living below poverty line. With no access to financial services, these households find it extremely difficult to take advantage of economic opportunities. The unorganized and the informal sector is taking due advantage and minting money through high levels of lending rates in the name of poverty elevation, women upliftment and empowerment. It is all about others, all about people who are deprived, neglected, poor and for a social cause and social benefit. If this concept is inserted into the economic theory, it becomes social business. It should not be made as a huge money minting industry at the cost of poor and the help-less. In this paper an attempt has been made to study whether microfinance is able to realize the true potential of its clients through social intermediation and ensure in building an inclusive society and eradication of poverty and working with a social cause. The study suggests that an alternate model needs to be developed to cater the need of the deprived and economically backward.

Abstract

The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector is one of the fast growing sectors in the global scenario after the liberalization, privatization, and globalization to increase job opportunities day by day. The sector is showing a remarkable growth even in the Indian context as major job providers through their activities relating to customer interaction and service. The BPO sector is developing the young generation not only by providing employment opportunities but also by building confidence in them. Indian BPO companies are even though they are playing great attention towards training the employees still most of the youngsters employees are facing a lot of problems as they are working on continuous night shifts, which affect their biological balance. Apart from this, excessive workloads, unreachable targets and pressurizing customers are creating stress among the employees. This ultimately results in physical, psychological and behavioural deviations which affects the employee’s personal and professional life along with the organizational growth. The aim is to identify the problems in the BPO sector and the level of stress among the employees, to determine the cause and perception of the employees about their work life. First hand information regarding the problems, the sources of stress and the experience on stress situations is collected from various sources. A questionnaire is circulated to employees at different levels to measure the stress level of employees. It also identifies the various stressors prevailing among the employees. The research also helps to analyze the stress impact on job; working conditions, work life balance and workload which creates stress among the employees at BPO sector, Vijayawada.

E-Governance helps in improving transparency, providing speedy information, dissemination, improving administrative efficiency and public services in all the aspects of education The implementation of e governance in education has led to new broader innovations. E governance has enabled universities to expand their current geographical reach, to interact to prospective students all around the world and to establish themselves as global education providers. This paper examines the need for implementation of e governance in education sector and its possible advantages. The aim of this paper is to examine the nature of change in Education with respect to the introduction and growth of IT based e governance. In all societies, the formation of public governance is largely dependent on its contextual parameters, including social structures, economic condition, political atmosphere, cultural pattern and technological trend. Electronic Governance or E-Governance is the latest buzzword for governments trying to involve people in administration, address transparency in the bureaucracies and make themselves more responsive to their citizens. The benefits of E-Governance are faster decision making, reduction of duplication of work, detection of corruption and illegal transaction, prevention of knowledge drain. The E-Governance will truly allow citizens to participate in the government decision making process, reflect their true needs and welfare by utilizing E-Government as a tool. E -Governance can play a major role to strengthen the technical education system by focusing on Knowledge Management (KM). This means proactive facilitation by E-governance means to evolve consensus based knowledge bank on key evaluation factors, how to combine these factors, and useful tools that offer greater value and consensus based case study knowledge. In this context we demonstrated the use of KM based Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) application as a useful tool for a more effective technical evaluation system.

Neglecting of senior citizens – once revered and idolized in Indian society – is largely attributable to the changing social landscape in Asia’s third largest economy, currently home to over 100 million elderly people. “Indians have to work as long as possible in order to support themselves,” “Employer insurance and pension schemes are available only to as low as nine percent of rural males and 41.9 percent of urban males who are in the formal sector; among females, the figures are lower still.” Despite India’s rapid economic growth, the majority of older Indians remain poor. Less than 11 percent have a pension of any sort, and many continue to work in old age. Many elderly citizens confess staying with their abusive children more for emotional reasons. EVOLUTION OF PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL SYSTEM ON EMPLOYEES MOTIVATION

Introduction

Performance Appraisal has been considered as the most significant an indispensable tool for an organization, for the information it provides is highly useful in making decisions regarding various personnel aspects such as promotion and merit increases. Performance measures also link information gathering and decision making processes which provide a basis for judging the effectiveness of personnel sub-divisions such as recruiting, selection, training and compensation. In many organizations, reward decisions depend on subjective performance evaluations. However, evaluating an employee’s performance is often difficult. In this paper, we develop a model in which the employee is uncertain about his own performance and about the manager’s ability to assess him. The manager gives an employee a performance appraisal with a view of affecting the employee’s self-perception, and the employee’s perception of the manager’s ability to assess performance. We examine how performance appraisals affect the employee’s future performance. The predictions of our model are consistent with various empirical findings. These comprise (i) the observation that managers tend to give positive appraisals, (ii) the finding that on average positive appraisals motivate more than negative appraisals, and (iii) the observation that the effects of appraisals depend on the employee’s perception of the manager’s ability to assess performance accurately.

In 2004, gross bad loans in the Indian banking sector touched 7.8 per cent, while the ratio was 11.1 per cent in 2002. “The stress in the banking sector, which mirrors the stress in the corporate sector, has to be dealt with in order to revive credit growth.
Gross bad loans at commercial banks could increase to 8.5 per cent of total advances by March 2017, from 7.6 per cent in March 2016, according to a baseline scenario projection by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its Financial Stability Report.

But radio can play a significant role in disseminating information to rural illiterate and semi-literate farmers as it is affordable and accessible. It is a powerful communication tool which reaches the farmers in the absence of regular and stable electric supplycan run with a battery. It is also a portable medium which a farmer can carry with him/her to the place where they work and listen to the station while doing their work. Radio with its flexibility, immediacy, immense potentiality and capacity caters the needs of national, local, and rural masses in every corner in the country. At present the AIR with its 415 stations, reaching 92 per cent of area and serving 99.19 per cent of the total population in the country with its programming in 23 languages and 146 dialects. Consumer non-durable goods is one of the largest sectors in the economy of Bangladesh. Consumer goods market has experienced dramatic changes; both qualitative and quantitative improvements have occurred in this industry. Meanwhile, determinants of consumer purchase decision enormously depend on the financial performance and marketing strategies adopted by the player of this industry. This research has divided into two parts: first part consists of financial performance analysis of consumer goods market and the second part consists of determinants of Bangladeshi young-adult consumer decision making process in the sector of consumer non-durable goods. A survey has been conducted among 240 young-adult Bangladeshi consumers with an structured questionnaire; extracted from Consumer Style Inventory (CSI) as suggested by Sproles and Kendall (1986) has been tasted to validate the basic characteristics of these styles among young-adult Bangladeshi consumers whereas the eight decision making style validated are brand conscious, Perfectionist, Price-Value Conscious Consumer, recreational-shopping conscious consumer, confused by Over-choice Consumer, impulsive consumer, habitual Consumer, novelty-fashion conscious consumer. The findings of this research will provide opportunity to marketers to better understand the need, want and demand of young-adult Bangladeshi consumer in the sector of consumer non-durable goods.

ANALYZING THE CURRENT ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT – DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL

Abstract

This study investigates the panel Granger causality relationship approach and variance decomposition to test whether domestic economic growth promote tourists receipts, using international tourism receipts, real GDP per capita growth, exchange rate, financial development, and trade openness for Asian countries over the period of 1995-2014 and whether regional effects should be considered a product of incomes groups in selected Asian countries. Drawing on the selected Asian countries experiments, the empirical investigation of tourism’s contribution to growth indicates that factors, as well as tourism-related factors, are conducive to economic growth. Based on the findings of the Panel Granger tests and variance decomposition analysis, tourism receipts and economic growth should be considered in the analysis, since they provide valuable information for policymakers. The interpretation of the causality test can help providing a tool to allocate limited resources in addition to developing appropriate tourism strategies.

A STUDY ON SALT SATYAGRAHA MOVEMENT BY GANDHI

Abstract

Salt March, also called Dandi March or Salt Satyagraha, major nonviolent protest action in India led by Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi in March–April 1930. The march was the first act in an even-larger campaign of civil disobedience (satyagraha) Gandhi waged against British rule in India that extended into early 1931 and garnered Gandhi widespread support among the Indian populace and considerable worldwide attention. Salt production and distribution in India had long been a lucrative monopoly of the British. Through a series of laws, the Indian populace was prohibited from producing or selling salt independently, and instead Indians were required to buy expensive, heavily taxed salt that often was imported. This affected the great majority of Indians, who were poor and could not afford to buy it. Indian protests against the salt tax began in the 19th century and remained a major contentious issue throughout the period of British rule of the subcontinent.
