A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE NEWS COVERAGE AND CONTENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN TWO ENGLISH DAILIES
Science and Technology has progressed at a rapid pace, especially in the past 50 years. This revolution has occurred in the entire world, and India has not remained behind in this race for progress and development. Our country has also produced several successful scientists, discoveries and inventions, and with increasing focus on education, we stand as the country that has a workforce with very high potential.
In order to mark India’s position in science and technology the world, it is necessary to ensure communication of science and scientific advancements to the general public. The literacy rate has been increasing, and along with it the readership of newspapers. Hence, newspapers play an important role in educating the community about science and scientific development.
This study was carried out to estimate the extent of coverage given to science and the kind of prominence it receives in newspapers. Two newspapers- Times of India, the leading English daily at the national level and Deccan Chronicle, the leading English Daily in Hyderabad city—were chosen for this study. A 20 % sample or every fifth issue from a three month period (January 1- March 31, 2014) was taken. The methodology used was Quantitative Content Analysis, combined with a qualitative analysis of trends in science reporting and presentation of science news.
The study found that the two newspapers together devoted 9.57 % of their cumulative news hole to Science news. Individually, the science coverage was found to be 10.09 % in the Times of India and 9.05% in the Deccan Chronicle, which is quite low, given the everyday advancements in the field of science and technology. In both newspapers, the maximum number of items was included in the category of Environment, Nature, Ecology and Evolution. Qualitative Analysis revealed trends such as several science stories being presented from the “Oddity” angle, where rather than the scientific nature of the discovery/ invention, the story highlighted the ‘rarity’ of the occurrence. Another trend that was observed was that several stories that had very little connection to science or technology, or had other lifestyle angles, were grouped with hard core science stories, or appeared on the pages that regularly reported science stories, thus confusing readers as to what actually constitutes science news.

INTERNET VIGILANTISM, ETHICS AND DEMOCRACY
With the rapid proliferation of the Internet and lack of central control, Internet vigilantism or Netilantism has posed a difficult paradox within ethical considerations that include breach of individual’s privacy, morality, freedom of speech and paucity of the laws in curbing it. After the advent of social media people often vent out their resentment through the Internet to a certain extent to punish societal offenders and for social control of the people by means of human flesh search engine (HFSE) or doxing and collective action with a view to be brought to justice.
This Netilantism phenomenon involves scam baiting, public shaming, distributed denial of service attack, google bombing, identity theft activism, anti-pedophile activism and counter-terrorism. The Netilantism engages concerted activity carried out by the Internet users in order to search for disappeared persons, or punish wrongdoers or corrupt government officials. It is also aimed to verify the credibility of statements made by the government authorities or people.
Online vigilantism is going unabated as the so-called vigilantes are able to keep safe their anonymity that bolsters them unhurt from the backlash of their acts. The interrelation between freedom and anonymity enabled the Internet vigilantes to give rise to an unruly attitude to make right the actions of the miscreants and to take revenge against those who violated the prevalent laws. Despite the anonymity that facilitates privacy to speak liberally in public without the fear of being noticed, yet it can vitiate the privacy by sanctioning the Internet vigilantes to march into the privacy of others with ease.
While the up-to-date laws pertaining to the Internet allowed a kind of amnesty for the Internet vigilantes, they may pose a threat to the privacy protection of others as Internet vigilantism results real world-effects. The vigilantes are deviant in nature and violate the existing laws through their actions on the Internet that have considerable consequences in real world. It is a double-edged sword, empowers Internet users to confront democratic authorities on the one hand and infringement of personal privacy on the other hand.
This paper is aimed to discuss the ethical issues emerging due to Internet vigilantism, as well as possible solutions.

WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP
It is clear that entrepreneurs and their firms can vary widely. Nevertheless, most of the research to date on entrepreneurship has examined central tendencies, with relatively little attention devoted to entrepreneurial diversity. This study examines one of the most distinguishing characteristics of young firms—initial size. The focus is whether smaller start-ups differ from larger ones in the backgrounds of the entrepreneurs, their processes of starting, or the subsequent patterns of development. In this longitudinal study, an initial sample of 1903 young firms was examined to determine differences in characteristics of the entrepreneurs and in their processes of starting. One year later, data were obtained from 742 of these firms, permitting analysis of how initial firm size was related to subsequent difficulties encountered and changes made, as well as to performance.
As expected, along almost every dimension, these starting larger firms had the backgrounds that would seem to be necessary for the assembly of substantial resources. They tended to have more education, more management experience, and goals that were more managerial in nature. They also were more likely to have partners. Women were associated more often with smaller ventures, but, for this sample, there were no differences in the representation of minorities between the smaller and larger start-ups. Those starting larger ventures tended to rely more upon external investors and to start ventures more closely linked to their previous jobs. Both groups of entrepreneurs sought information from a number of sources, but those founding larger ventures utilized professional advisors more, whereas those starting smaller ventures utilized informal sources.

The increasing cases of frauds and the growing level of risk insist that insurers regularly evaluate their policies, conduct checks and adopt advanced techniques to curtail such issues. AN EFFECTIVE ROLE OF SELF HELP GROUP IN EMPOWERING RURAL WOMEN
Self Help Groups (SHGs) emerge as an important strategy for empowering women and to alleviate poverty.
India’s SHG movement has emerged as the world’s largest and most successful network of Community Based
Organisations (CBOs). Development is a multi-dimensional process that affects society in multiple ways. It is
well documented that women constitute about half of the world’s population but their share in the economy and
other development spheres remain neglected. In addition, this large section of population (including Indian
women) have been suffering from various disadvantages – lack of accessibility to resources, non-recognition of
their economic contribution within the family and society. In order to resolve these emerging challenges,
Government of India (GOI) has implemented various programmes and policies since Independence. Among
these programmes, Self Help Groups (SHGs) may be considered as a significant initiative of the government as
well as the non-governmental organisations (NGOs). These are based on the principle of democratic process of
development. The democratic institution provides a platform to the socially and economically deprived sections
and encourages them for economic participation. Since the 1970s, SHGs have been working in many states of
India and contributing to the development processes.

A STUDY ON RBI IN PROMOTING FINANCIAL INCLUSION
Financial Inclusion is defined by the RBI “as the process of ensuring access to financial services and timely and adequate credit where needed by vulnerable groups such as the weaker sections and low income groups at an affordable cost from Mainstream financial institutions.” Only 45% of the Indian population has access to bank. The number of branches per lakh of population was 6.33 as of March 2010 in India as compared to 25-45 for developed countries. Only 13% of our population has debit cards and only 2% has credit cards. Further, only about 30% of bank branches in the country operate in rural areas that house about 72.2% of the country’s population. Rural India accounts for just 9% of total deposits, 7% of total credit, 10% of life insurance and 0.6% of non-life business. Financial Inclusion has the potential to bring in the unbanked masses into the formal banking system, channelize their savings, stoke their entrepreneurial ambitions by making available credit and thus give a fillip to the economy. Financial inclusion has been embedded as an objective of economic policy in India since independence. However, since 2005, it has been an explicit policy endeavour of the Reserve Bank. Various policy initiatives have been undertaken by both the Reserve Bank as well as the Government of India to ensure universal financial access especially post-2005. . RBI’s Contribution has led to developments in banking services like Overdraft facility in Saving Bank Accounts, Liberalised branch expansion, Liberalised policy for ATM, Introducing technology products and services, Pre-Paid cards, Mobile Banking, as well as allowing Regional Rural Banks / Co-operative banks to sell Insurance and Financial Products, Financial Literacy Program, Creation of Special Funds, etc. This paper, therefore, discusses as to why financial inclusion has now become a key imperative for India, benefits of financial inclusion, recent steps/initiatives taken by RBI, GOI and commercial banks in promoting financial inclusion along with the steps taken to boost financial literacy which is a key imperative for financial inclusion.
