DIGITAL KNOWLEDGE RESOURCES AND ITS IMPACT ON LEARNING IN MANAGEMENT COLLEGES AT HYDERABAD

Abstract

Technology has revolutionized the concept of libraries. Networking and computing technologies have now become sufficiently advanced to support the design and deployment of large digital libraries which are capable of supporting the conventional end user functions. Digital libraries are a natural extension of the evolution in which libraries have been involved for centuries. They represent a fundamental leap forward in the provision of services for, and partnership with, information communities. This paper presents the study on the use of digital resources by faculty members available in the MBA college libraries. The sample units were the 120 faculty members of the five MBA colleges in Hyderabad. The primary data was collected and the findings suggest that most of the faculty members are familiar with the usage of digital resources, using CD-ROM, Internet, E-mail, Search engines, and College website daily. Majority of the faculty members have expressed ‘lack of training’ and ‘lack of time’ are the main problems in securing access to digital resources.

USAGE OF INTERNET FACILITIES BY USERS (TEACHERS AND STUDENTS) AT MAULANA AZAD NATIONAL URDU UNIVERSITY, HYDERABAD

Abstract

Libraries are changing with time from mere storehouses of books to dynamic service centres. The present day libraries are called as Digital libraries. The information that is available in digital form requires new and modern methods for its handling. Therefore there is a need for library professionals and users to learn to cope with the present situation. The present study has been undertaken to assess the availability and use of Internet facilities faculty and research scholars in MANUU library. The objectives of the study were to assess the awareness, availability and use of internet by faculty and research scholars. Their extent of satisfaction, impediment and impact of Internet were analyzed. The findings of the study revealed that the user community is not aware about resources such as OPAC, information gateways groups, discussion forums ets. There is a need to develop knowledge about use of Electronic Thesis and Dissertations (ETDs) technical reports, patents, databases etc, that are available online. To utilize the resources of internet to its maximum, it is necessary to make the user community well-versed in the surfing and browsing on the internet. There is a need for awareness and use of internet resources. User orientation program should be conducted making aware of the users on searching of information on the internet, the availability and usage of web resources, etc.

A STUDY OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES FOR CREATION OF WEB PORTAL

Abstract

This research aims to develop a job web portal for the students in the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT), University of Malaya (UM). The main aims of this portal are to connect to the industries and acts as an online recruitment to support the students to find the right IT job after graduation. Furthermore, this system enhances the understanding concept and importance of the job portal for students in the universities. A survey was conducted to identify the students’ problems with the existing portal of the faculty and to gather their requirements which can be incorporated in to the portal to be developed.

PROMINENT DEVELOPMENTS IN TECHNICAL EDUCATIONAL LIBRARIES

Abstract

The objective of the paper is to establish a relationship between the library, literacy and education. It also discussed the library as a pre-requisite for education for sustainable development at all levels of education. The paper emphasized the role of libraries through extension services and Audio-visual aids, story hours, lectures, book exhibitions, pictures, newsreels, films, etc, for mass education. „Education‟ and „library‟ are two inseparable—indivisible concepts, both being fundamentally and synchronically related to and co-existent with each other. One cannot be separated from the other, and the existence of one is impossibility without the other. None of them is an end in itself, rather both of them together are a means to an ultimate end. One dies as soon as the other perishes. One survives as long as the other exists. This inter-relation, this co-existence, this dependence of one upon the other have been coming down from the birth of human civilization to the posterity through a process of evolution in accord with varied needs, changes, and circumstances of various stages of human life. Education cannot exist alone in the absence of library, and library has no meaning if it cannot impart education. Education is an eye-opener to a human being; it gives him perfect, adequate knowledge, creates civic and rational sense, withdraws him from the subjection of low habits, selfish passions, and ignoble pursuits, and thus educes him from abysmal darkness to limpid and perspicuous enlightenment, while library is an instrument of self-education, a means of knowledge and factual information, a centre of intellectual recreation, and a beacon of enlightenment that provide accumulated— preserved knowledge of civilization which consequently enrich ones mental vision, and dignify his habit, behavior, character, taste, attitude, conduct, and outlook on life.

MODERN LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SERVICES WITH GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM

Abstract

In-library use data is crucial for modern libraries to understand the full spectrum of patron use, including patron self-service activities, circulation, and reference statistics. Rather than using tables and charts to display use data, a geographic information system (GIS) facili-tates a more visually appealing graphical display of the data in the form of a map. GISs have been used by library and information science (LIS) researchers and practitio-ners to create maps that display analyses of service area populations and demographics, facilities space manage-ment issues, spatial distribution of in-library use of materials, planned branch consolidations, and so on. The “seating sweeps” method allows researchers and librari-ans to collect in-library use data regarding where patrons are locating themselves within the library and what they are doing at those locations, such as sitting and reading, studying in a group, or socializing. This paper proposes a GIS as a tool to visually display in-library use data col-lected via “seating sweeps” of a library. By using a GIS to store, manage, and display the data, researchers and librarians can create visually appealing maps that show areas of heavy use and evidence of the use and value of the library for a community. Example maps are included to facilitate the reader’s understanding of the possibilities afforded by using GISs in LIS research.
