Abstract

Concrete is been widely used construction material throughout the world were the properties and behavior of concrete changes with the materials used , add mixture water content and w/c ratio, workability of concrete is an a important criteria for placing concrete and for compacting of concrete special vibrating devices are been used, concrete also have the ability to get compacted by its own weight or mass by addition of add mixtures or fibers etc This type of concrete is known as self compacting concrete(ssc). In the present study fiber reinforcements are introduced to observe the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of the self compacting concrete (scc) Fibers are added to concrete to increase the flexural strength of concrete and to arrest the cracking pattern developed in the concrete. This fibers used in the study are 15mm long glass fiber and carbon fiber. The volume fraction of fibers taken are 0.1%, 0.15% ,0.2% grade of concrete considerd is m40 max.

INVESTIGATION ON STRENGTH AND BEHAVIOUR OF TILES PREPARED WITH GLASS FIBRE CONCRETE

Abstract

Concrete being brittle is weak in tension. The inclusion of fibres in concrete have significantly improves its compressive as well as tensile strength. The use of different types of fibres & their orientation in the matrix have shown positive responses among the researchers. In the present study alkali resistant glass fibres were used in the concrete mixes. A total of 8 mixes were prepared by varying the percentages of glass fibres and grade of concrete mixes. Based on the laboratory results the compressive and tensile strength was reported to increase up to 26.19% and 25.4%. However the workability of concrete mixes is not much affected by the addition of fibres. The tensile strength of concrete is improved which shows the use of glass fibres in concrete mixes may reduce its shortcoming of low tensile strength without affecting its workability and compressive strength.

In this study we have carried out detailed study of various concepts of precast, go through number of literature & found the facts associated with it. We have taken one building as a case & Design the same building as a precast building & Traditional Cast in-situ building. Here we have made cost analysis as well as feasibility check on basis of costing & Duration. For more practical study we have visited the two ongoing construction sites of Precast & cast in-situ & gathered required information, From this analysis It is remarkably seen that the cost of precast building is significantly reduces & duration of construction is also much lesser than traditional method. From all this study we can be conclude that the precast concrete system is economical than conventional cast in place method but still there are some conditions which we have to take care of while using precast, those are quantity of construction, Distance of site from manufacturing unit, Type of building etc.

STUDY ON THE OPTIMAL DESIGN OF CYLINDER AND CYLINDER HEAD BY PARAMETRIC STRUCTURE CHARACTERIZATION

Abstract

The engine cylinder head is one of the most critical components in an automotive power train system. Yet, it has the most complicated mechanical structure coupled with a sophisticated combustion process. This study attempts to develop a concrete and practical procedure for the optimal design of the engine cylinder head. First, a simplified topological model composed of beam, shell and membrane elements is developed to simulate the real cylinder head. With this model, the finite element method can be easily and economically employed to study the load-bearing mechanism of the cylinder head under actual engine operation conditions. After characterizing the stress/strain behavior of all the key components through parametric analysis, a new optimization criterion is developed based on Lagrange conditions. This criterion provides an opportunity to represent the ideal ‘balanced point’ among the main design parameters of the cylinder head in terms of weight distribution of the key components. Finally, the optimization of the cylinder head structure is implemented successfully based on these findings. Compared to the optimization results from commercial software, the proposed approach is able to produce a much better solution in respect to both the convergence speed and the final value of the objective function.

Radiators are used to transfer thermal energy from one medium to another for the purpose of cooling. Radiators are used for cooling internal combustion engines, mainly in automobiles but also in piston-engine aircraft, railway locomotives, motorcycles, stationary generating plant. The radiator transfers the heat from the fluid inside to the air outside, thereby cooling the fluid, which in turn cools the engine. In this thesis, the computational analysis tool ANSYS is used to perform a CFD analysis on a radiator at different mass flow rates. The present model of radiator has no louvered fins, in this thesis the radiator is replaced with louvered fins. In this thesis CFD analysis is performed for radiator with and without louvered fins. Heat transfer analysis is performed to analyze the heat transfer rate. The material used for fins of radiator is Aluminum alloy 6061. Modeling is performed in Pro/Engineer and analysis is performed in ANSYS

Abstract

Every day scientists are developing new materials and for each new material, we need economical and efficient machining and it is also predicted that, Taguchi method is a good method for optimization of various machining parameters as it reduces the number of experiments. In the present work, by using taguchi approach the End milling of EN-31 steel alloy is carried out in order to optimize the milling process parameters and to minimize the surface roughness. This paper deals with optimization of selected milling process parameters Speed, Feed rate, Depth of cut and coolant flow Taguchi orthogonal array is designed with three levels of milling parameters and different experiments are done using L9 orthogonal array, containing four columns which represents four factors and nine rows which represents nine experiments to be conducted and value of each parameter was obtained. The nine experiments are performed and surface roughness is calculated. The Signal to Noise Ratio (S/N) ratio of predicted value and verification test values are valid when compared with the optimum values. It is found that S/N ratio value of verification test is within the limits of the predicted value and the objective of the work is full filled.

OPTIMIZATION AND MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF DOWN THE HOLE AIR FLESHING BUTTON BIT

Abstract

The process of DTH (down-the-hole) hammer drilling has been characterized as a very Complex phenomenon due to its high nonlinearity, large deformation and damage behaviors. The impact loads of piston-bit interaction appear to be relatively sensitive to piston impact velocity. The impact between piston-bit interactions occurs at larger forces. The material properties of impact specimen do not affect the first impact process between the piston and bit. However, the period between the two impacts and the magnitudes of the impact forces greatly depend on the specimen material properties. It is found that the penetration depth of specimen is dependent on the impact force magnitude and the macro-mechanical properties of the materials. Another important finding is the local stress concentrations in the component due to insufficiently smooth blending of curvatures at the contacting face. The important finding is that the stresses in the component, in spite of the complicated geometry, approximately follow a simple time history, with some superimposed oscillations. Down-the-hole hammer (DTH) drilling is an air hammer drilling technique designed for drilling through bedrock and features a typical drill string length of 200  m or shorter due to its technical specifications. Generally to manufacture a button bit it takes lot of time and need different machining operations. The button bit manufacturing process contains different stages from material selection to final coating. In the previous manufacturing system we are losing material. But in this paper by changing of machining we can save material, reduce production cost and also can increase production cost. This paper deals with complete manufacturing process of 8 inch DTH button bit With the focus of study on the DTH button bit manufacturing. Generally we are using EN36C for button manufacturing.

IMPLEMENTATION OF PLC FOR SIMULTANEOUS CONTROL OF BRUSHLESS DC MOTOR & LINEAR INDUCTION MOTOR SPEED

Abstract

Present paper describes the simultaneous speed control of Brushless DC Motor and Linear induction motor drive employing PWM technique using Programmable Logic Controller. PLC is used to write the program to control speed as well as direction of BLDC and Linear induction motor. Based on hall sensor output signal of BLDC motor, PLC triggers the IGBT driver circuit to generate the Pulse width modulation signal, which is given to the stator of the motor. The drive performance is studied for motor starting, speed control and direction control. The hall sensor signal, speed command and phase currents are the input to the controller. Controller incessantly monitors the input and activates the output according to the program. With programming single PLC, simultaneous control of more than one motor through extra input and output is possible. PLC performs well for speed up to the 1500 rpm. The BLDC motor doesn’t run faster due to the switching delay of the PLC.
